Childhood is a time where children purchase world around themselves. That they see and experience many factors that influence their particular everyday lives, which help these people grow more powerful when they turn into adults. In " GirlвЂќ by Discovery bay, jamaica Kincaid and " The LessonвЂќ by Toni Sabine Bambara the characters in the stories learn valuable lesson with help them grow to get better persons. In " The LessonвЂќ the character of Sugar undergoes a recognition that contemporary society does not handle everyone similarly, that not every person has the same opportunity and equality that they can should have. In " GirlвЂќ the main character learns that she should be perceived as a lady and not as a slut, her mother produces in her interest of how the world is and what she must to perform in order to survive in this. Lessons that children learn all help them grow to be better people, in " GirlвЂќ and " The LessonвЂќ the teachings that the character types learn equally help them grow to become better and stronger individuals. In " The LessonвЂќ the character, Sugar goes through a understanding of the world about her, through her tutor Miss Moore, Sugar sees that there is an easier way of residing in the world besides, her personal little world with her friends. Sugar says, " You know, Miss Moore, I don't think that all of us below put together consume in a year what that sailboat costs, вЂќ (Bambara 452). Miss Moore is a great African American woman who has broken through the requirement that world has put on her category and on her color. Bambara presents Miss Moore as a very knowledgeable and clever woman, who may have a college degree. With her knowledge Miss Moore begins to educate the deprived and lower categorised children and teach all of them of the world surrounding them.
